How we feel in our homes impacts on our day-to-day wellbeing, so it’s vital our homes act as a sanctuary and promote healthy living.

Our homes are now, more than ever, used as multi-functional spaces. From the rise in people working from home, to at-home gyms and kitchen-dining rooms, maximising the space you have has never been so important.

Here’s our roundup of some ways you can add touches of wellness to your home.

Natural daylight

As soon as spring comes around we start to reap the benefits of more daylight hours. So how we incorporate natural light in our homes plays a vital role in our wellbeing.

Long gone are the days of opening and closing a blind and that being your only option. Integrating blinds on your windows and doors allows you to have more precise control over sunlight.

With manual operation or motorised blinds with PowerView® automation, you can adjust your blinds during the day to stop any unwanted glare from the sun or to ensure privacy is maintained while reaping the benefits of natural light.

Venetian blinds, Pirouette® shades, Silhouette® shades and Twist Roller blinds are our top product choices when it comes to clever light control.

By making the most of natural daylight you’ll have less reliance on artificial lighting, and the lighting you do incorporate can feature softer lamps and wall lights rather than bright overhead ceiling lights.

Power of plants

Who doesn’t love a touch of greenery in the home. From bulbs in vases and herb-laden window boxes to gardens and larger landscapes.

Incorporating sensory elements is a trend that is becoming more popular, engaging with all five senses. Introduce fragrant plants and edible delights, along with plants that are not only beautiful to look at but nice to touch as well, look for ornamental grasses and the soft leaves of Lamb’s ears.

The team at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew have written a piece about how to create a sensory garden, full of useful tips, adding:

“This type of garden not only allows you to connect to nature, but encourages you to become more aware of your surroundings and your response to them, tapping into the principles of mindfulness.”

Outside connections

Connections with the outside world can really help when you’re in the home. Think of a cosy chair by a window, a view to the outside when preparing meals in the kitchen or being able to see your garden when you’re sitting at your desk at home.

Increasingly popular is the trend to work outdoors, with trend forecasting company WGSN noting in their 2024 trend forecast podcast that outdoor desks will be the next big thing. Let's face it, we all want to maximise time outdoors when the sun comes out.

Awnings offer a great way to extend your living space, allowing you to be covered and work outside in all temperatures. The awnings’ fabrics incorporate a special UV treatment to assist in blocking out the sun when you’re outside.

Not just useful when outside, but by blocking the sun's rays a Luxaflex® Awning can reduce the amount of heat entering your home, reducing the strain on air conditioning systems and ultimately lowering energy costs.

Materials matter

It’s often an element many people aren’t familiar with, but the materials used to make blinds can impact on your indoor air quality and health.

Luxaflex® works with four principal sustainability certification systems, including OEKO-Tex® Standard 100 and GREENGUARD certified.

Healthier indoor air quality

We are unknowingly exposed to everyday chemicals through the air in our indoor environments, such as homes, offices and schools. These chemicals, often known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), constitute the majority of such exposures.

By selecting Luxaflex® products with GREENGUARD certification, you can help to create a healthier indoor environment for your home, reducing chemical exposure.

This important certification assures Luxaflex® products contribute to healthier indoor air quality in your home.

Our GREENGUARD certified products include: Roller blinds, Plissé shades, Duette® shades, Vertical blinds fabrics, and aluminium Venetian blinds.

OEKO-TEX® certification

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances.

If you see the STANDARD 100 label, you can be certain that every component of the article has been tested for harmful substances and is therefore harmless for human health.

As part of your consultation with a Luxaflex® dealer you’ll get the opportunity to look through our product collection books. Look out for the labels on the back of each sample, fabrics that are OEKO-TEX® or GREENGUARD certified will be identified by their individual symbols.

Acoustic Roller blinds Acoustic Roller blinds

Sound absorbing blinds

We’ve all heard about soundproofing a room, but did you know that Luxaflex® offers sound absorbing blinds. Yes, that’s really a thing!

Included in our roller blinds collection are a range of acoustic fabrics that offer noise reduction benefits from surfaces including hard floorings, glass and walls.

A number of our roller blinds have demonstrated significant acoustic advantages, absorbing up to 60 percent of noise absorption. These findings are based on testing according to EN ISO 11654, a standard aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Experts in this field indicate that favourable room acoustics play a crucial role in stress prevention, enhanced communication, and reduced fatigue. This holds particular significance when working from home, for increased productivity and wellbeing.

Happiness isn’t just reserved for the inside of our homes!
