Maison & Objet Interiors Trend Report

  • Trends

Paris is known as the world’s fashion hub. But it’s not just where the fashion editors decipher the emerging trends. Twice a year the global interior designers, architects and pundits descend on the City of Light to see what the best dressed homes will be wearing in the coming year. We’ve brought you the inside track of the hottest interior design trends for 2017 straight from Maison & Objet.

Pastels with Punch

The corals, honey and golden corn tones that were so big in 2016 are still present in 2017, but with a slightly bolder edge. Use these more intense versions as accents, in glazes and trims against more neutral and calm tones such as a cool grey or blonde wood.

Sheers

Providing privacy but also allowing light to gently filter through, sheer fabrics are a great contrast against the bold tones and colours that proliferate this season. A pattern or weave can add extra interest, or give them more architectural edge y using them in a more structured fashion. These Luxaflex Silhouette® Shades are ideal against large windows for a sleek look with a soft edge. Tile the fabric vanes to create an array of lighting effects.

Rich & Regal

Jewel tones fit for a crown are still gracing the most elegant homes. Think Dutch Old Masters or Henry VIII: rich but muted rather than emeralds and rubies. Look for deep tones of blue, green or bold reds and twin with gold details for light fittings or in fabrics for window coverings and cushions.

Heavy Metal

A big story for 2016, metal finishes such as copper and brass aren’t going anywhere. Metallics add instant edge to a room without making a scheme seem cold. If you want to use them but want more of the form than the glitz, use them plain and combine them with another detail such as the Venetian Blinds above with a geometric pattern built into the fabric of the design.

The Natural Choice

Despite the luxurious hues in the other colours that will feature large in 2017 the natural world will still be an important story. From hessian fabrics and bamboo frames, they provide an ideal foil to the intensity of the other key materials. Long lined wooden blinds or oversized straw baskets will keep the look surprising. Don’t be afraid to mix it up; that’s when the interesting things start to happen.
