Cleaning Roller Blinds

White roller blinds on French doors in a spacious hallway

Keeping your Luxaflex® roller blinds looking their best is straightforward when you know what to do and what to avoid. Luxaflex® roller blind fabrics are designed for everyday living and treated with a protective anti-static coating that helps reduce dust and dirt build up. A little regular care goes a long way, and tackling marks early will help preserve the look and performance of your blind.

This guide explains how to clean roller blinds safely at home, with tailored advice depending on the type of fabric you have.

Everyday care for Luxaflex® roller blinds

For day-to-day maintenance, gentle cleaning is all that’s needed. Dust and light debris can be removed using a soft cloth, feather duster or the upholstery attachment on a vacuum cleaner, used on a low setting. Always clean with the blind fully lowered and supported to avoid putting strain on the fabric.

Regular light cleaning helps prevent dirt from settling into the weave and keeps your blind looking fresh for longer.

Removing light marks and small stains

If you notice a small mark or localised dirt, it’s best to act quickly.

Most Luxaflex® roller blind fabrics can be cleaned using a slightly damp cloth or sponge and lukewarm water. If needed, add a small amount of mild, non-synthetic detergent. Gently dab the area rather than rubbing, as scrubbing can damage the protective surface of the fabric.

Allow the blind to dry fully before rolling it back up.

Important: Metallic roller blind fabrics should never come into contact with water. Moisture can damage the metallic layer and affect the appearance of the blind. For these fabrics, stick to dry dusting only.

When roller blinds are heavily soiled

Extremely dirty roller blinds are difficult to clean at home. Complete immersion in water is not recommended.

Luxaflex® roller blind fabrics are bonded to a steel roller tube and cannot be separated without damaging the blind. Excess moisture may cause the fabric to loosen from the tube or lead to rust forming inside the mechanism.

If your blind is heavily soiled or has staining that cannot be removed with gentle surface cleaning, speak to your local Luxaflex® dealer for tailored advice. They can assess the fabric and recommend the best next step based on your specific blind.

What to avoid when cleaning roller blinds

To protect your blind and maintain its finish, avoid:

  • Soaking the fabric or using excessive water
  • Abrasive cloths, sponges or harsh cleaning products
  • Scrubbing or applying pressure to stained areas
  • Steam cleaners or chemical sprays

These methods can damage the fabric coating, affect colour or compromise how the blind operates.
